27 October 2025 University life 446

The district stage of the first All-Russian competition for international students «StudRussia» took place at Polytechnic University. The competition is organized by the National Research Technological University MISIS with the assistance of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation to support talented and active international students with achievements in science, creativity, sports, social activities and volunteerism.

The district stage of the first All-Russian competition for international students “StudRussia” took place at the Polytechnic University

Polytechnic University, as a co-organizer of the competition, hosted 140 winners of the qualifying stage from 32 universities of the North-Western Federal District. Of course, students of Polytechnic University were among the participants.

The geography of the participants was also extensive, representatives of 30 countries came to visit us, including: India, Pakistan, Morocco, Ghana, Ecuador, Uganda, Nigeria, Mexico, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Brazil, China, Mongolia, Iran, Palestine, Tunisia, Algeria, Vietnam and others. Some of the foreign students walked with the flag of their state, some had elements of folk costume in their clothes, in general, the atmosphere in the Technopolis Polytechnic research building was very international for two days.

Maxim Pasholikov and Roman Volkovsky, Acting Chairman of the Committee on Youth Policy and Interaction with Public Organizations in St. Petersburg, also welcomed the participants.

Maxim Pasholikov briefly spoke about how foreign students study and relax at Polytechnic University, and assured that the university will do everything possible to make the participants of the first StudRussia competition comfortable, convenient and interesting here.

After the plenary session, the participants presented their projects.

After the plenary session, the participants were divided into groups according to their nominations. There were six of them: «The Future of Science», «Leaders of generations», «Conquerors of peaks», «Kindness without borders», «Inspired by creativity», «Russian language and Culture». However, some participants applied for several nominations at once, and, I must say, for good reason — for such activity it was possible to receive the highest award — the Grand Prix «Best Foreign Student».

On the first day of the competition, amazing things happened in different classrooms of the NRC: in one, foreign guests of Polytechnic University shared their experiences of learning the Russian language and confessed their love for Russian literature. In another, they sang songs in their native language and played folk instruments. In the Kapitsa Conference Hall, young scientists made presentations on their scientific developments and initiatives. In Semenov Conference Hall, they talked about volunteer work and offered ideas for improving sports infrastructure in the northern regions of Russia.

The contest participants present their projects

When all the projects were presented to the jury and the business part of the program of the first day was over, the participants went by bus to explore St. Petersburg. And those of them who study and live here were happy to tell their new friends from other regions of the Northwestern Federal District about the sights of the city on the Neva. The children saw Smolny and St. Isaac’s Cathedrals, Peter and Paul Fortress, drove along Nevsky Prospekt, visited Arts Square, the Spit of Basil Island, Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery.

The second day of visiting Polytechnic University began with a lecture by Andrey Mashkovtsev, Doctor of History, from the Russian Knowledge Society on the achievements of Russia in the 21st century. Then the guys were invited to a tour of the SPbPU campus: the Main Building, the Tower and the Sports Complex.

Summing up the results

And then the most important moment came — the summing up and the award ceremony. The participants of the district stage became very friendly during the time they spent together and therefore rejoiced over each other’s successes.
