Polytechnic University and Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology launched a project marathon
The Institute of Civil Engineering at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University hosted the grand opening of the joint international project marathon «Reconstruction of Industrial Facilities Using V. G. Shukhov’s Spatial Structures,» organized by the Institute of Civil Engineering and Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology.
SPbPU and Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology have launched an international design marathon
Students in international teams will develop a concept for the renovation of an industrial area in Xi’an, including architectural and structural solutions for historically valuable industrial facilities using the designs of the outstanding Russian engineer Vladimir Shukhov.
The marathon is held in a hybrid format, including online lectures and seminars from teachers of two universities. In total, 40 students from the Russian and Chinese sides and 6 teachers-mentors take part in the project.
An important stage of the marathon will be an exit session to the design territory in Xi’an, scheduled for the period from April 9 to 15, 2026 and organized with the support of the Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology. This will allow students to get to know each other better, collect the necessary data for their work and gain the rich experience of their Chinese colleagues.
SPbPU has been successfully using this format for a long time and since 2018 has been organizing student design marathons together with foreign universities, bringing together students from different countries into intercultural teams to solve real engineering problems. This format allows you not only to apply knowledge in practice, but also to learn how to work in an international professional environment. The results of the marathon will be summed up at the final presentations, which will be held in a remote format. The participants will present their projects and receive feedback from experts from the two countries.
