Andrei I. Rudskoi graduated from Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1981 majoring in «Metal forming»,
In 1993 he graduated from the Academy of National Economy affiliated with the Government of the Russian Federation.
He defended his Doctoral Degree thesis.
In 2008 he became the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and in 2016 — the Academician of the Russian Academy of Science.

All professional activities of Andrei Rudskoi as a researcher, administrative figure, authoritative leader of the international scientific expert community and active public personality is associated with his Alma Mater — Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

Since 2003 he has been the SPbSPU Vice-Rector. In May, 2011, he was appointed Rector of SPbPU.

Research and Academic Activities

Andrei I. Rudskoi gained wide recognition in the international scientific community. He is an author of over 350 scientific works in the field of materials science, including 23 monographs. He has established a world-class research school «Advanced functional materials and technologies for their manufacturing and processing»; he developed new effective technologies for the synthesis of new generation metal-carbon composite materials, as well as innovative methods for producing metal dispersion-strengthened intermetallic and composite powder materials for additive and hybrid technologies.

Achievements and works of Andrei I. Rudskoi have made a systemic contribution to the development of technologies in mechanical engineering, medicine, tool engineering, shipbuilding, chemical and defense industries. Among the particularly significant recent studies supervised by Academician Rudskoi there are developments related to materials for hydrogen energy and the Arctic region.

Areas of research interests: nanotechnology in metallurgy, plastic processing of metals, powder metallurgy, etc.

Administrative Activities

Being the SPbPU Rector Andrei I. Rudskoi actively contributes to maintaining the SPbPU status as the country’s leading technical university, strengthening it as a global competitive research and educational center that integrates multidisciplinary research and best-in-class technologies for all industries. This is confirmed by modern achievements of SPbPU, including the following:

• national leadership in the field of «Advanced Manufacturing Technologies»;
• coordination of a consortium of organizations of the World-Class Research Center «Advanced Digital Technologies»;
• joining the leading group of universities in the national program «Priority 2030»;
• high positions in world university rankings:
• 3rd place in Russia in the institutional global THE ranking,
• 1st place among Russian universities in THE Engineering & Technology ranking,
• 37th place in the world in THE Impact ranking for impact on sustainable development, etc.

Public, Social and Expert Activities

Andrei I. Rudskoi has been making a significant contribution to the scientific, technical and economic development of St. Petersburg. As a Deputy Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council under St. Petersburg Government, he carries out organizational work in various committees and departments of the city. As a sought-after expert, he has been a chair or participant in key international and national governmental, industrial and public councils and commissions in the field of education, science and technology, including the following:

• Government Commission on the modernization of the economy and innovative development of Russia;
• Council on Grants of the President of the Russian Federation for state support of young Russian scientists and on state support of leading scientific schools of the Russian Federation;
• Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation in the field of education «Engineering, Technology and Technical Sciences»;
• Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation;
• Joint Scientific and Technical Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences and JSC FGC UES, etc.

He is an Honorary Professor at leading universities in China, Germany, Poland, Great Britain and other countries, as well as a full member of a number of public academies of the Russian Federation.

Andrei I. Rudskoi’s achievements and merits in the professional activities have been recognized by means of the highest state and departmental awards, including the following:

• the RF Government award in science and engineering, the RF Government education award;
